The type of RAM that the contitutes the computer's working area is dinamic RAM, or DRAM. Information stored in DRAM is made up of electical charges, which degrade and decay when left to themselves, because of this, periodically DRAM has to be dinamically refreshed so that all those bits don't literally blow away.
